How This Plan Helps Us Work Smarter

This is not three separate initiatives. Each habit follows one integrated cycle so teachers replace one existing block—never add another lesson on top.

Leader in Me

Teach or preview the habit language and student leadership target.

Common Sense

Use one aligned grade-level lesson in place of one scheduled Leader in Me block—not as an extra lesson.

Apply

TK–2 use role-play, paper planning, or teacher-directed technology. Grades 3–6 use imagi or another approved AI-supported creation task.

Reflect & Share

Collect one small evidence item and connect it to the assembly, classroom role, or student portfolio.

Our shared commitments keep student learning human, protected, and purposeful.

Foundations first
Reading, writing, mathematics, discussion, productive struggle, and first drafts remain protected.
Human-centered
AI amplifies student and teacher voice; it does not replace thinking, relationships, judgment, creativity, or care.
Approved tools only
No new AI or digital tool is used with students without Superintendent pre-approval.
Age-appropriate access
AI access expands gradually from teacher modeling in TK–K to student judgment, verification, attribution, and defense in Grade 6.
Data & Privacy
No student usernames, passwords, or personally identifiable information should be entered into unapproved tools.

The Five Student Authorship Questions

Every guided imagi or AI creation in Grades 3–6 is authored by the student. Students plan, prompt, test, debug, and explain — and their answers to these five questions become the "artifact plus five authorship questions" listed as Student Evidence on each grade page.

Plan
What am I making, and why does it matter to me?
Students name their idea, purpose, and audience before opening any tool.

Prompt
What did I ask the AI or tool to do, in my own words?
Students record the prompt or directions they gave — their voice, not the machine's.

Test
What worked, and what did not work the way I expected?
Students try their idea, notice results, and separate what the tool did from what they did.
4
Debug
What did I change or fix to make it better?
Students revise, re-prompt, or rebuild — showing thinking, not just clicking.
5
Explain
Where is my voice in this, and what did I learn?
Students explain their choices and what they'd do differently next time — the artifact plus their reflection is the evidence.

These questions live inside our existing Leader in Me instructional time. They are not a new initiative or an added block — they are how students show their voice when a habit application uses imagi or AI.
